My First Blog Post

It’s very exciting for me. My first blog. 
Who would have guessed that I’ll have my own blog?! and that the domain nirorpaz.com will be available?? crazy, I know.

So, this is my “Hello World” post.

My name is Nir Orpaz and I’ve been working with mobile phones for the past 12 years. I think I understand them by now (and the people that use them).

I have been programming since I was about 12 years old, back in the early 90’s. I always found it pretty amazing that I can tell a machine what to do, and it would somehow do it. Magic.

Since I started to develop applications for mobile phones using Java (J2ME) I got addicted to it. I still see it as a magical thing and it became my passion. Then came the iPhone and Android, which were even more open and much easier to develop to.

In the last few years mobile programming had evolved, and I believe that today’s mobile programming should begin with the UX and UI. I’m a strong believer in the UI first methodology.

Personally, I do not like design patterns. You see, I was attacked by a design pattern a while ago. I used it in my code and it bite me in the ass, so I tend not to over-use them these days. Simplicity plays a big role in writing code and I tend to keep my code clean and readable.

In addition to my programming, I do have other skills. I like playing basketball, I enjoy walking on the beach and I love creating new ventures and startups, which I’ll probably write about in my next posts.
